The Shippen is a single-storey cottage converted from a barn on a traditional Devon farm near the little town of Colyton. The cottage sleeps four people in two bedrooms, a double and twin, with a family bathroom. On the same level is an open plan living space with seating area with wood burning stove, dining area, kitchen and door to a patio.The adjacent scullery houses washing machine and tumble drier. Outside is also a big shared lawn with barbecue and a games barn. Four miles from Colyton, The Shippen is a welcoming cottage for a fabulous Devon break.
4 miles from Colyton, deep in thick, lush hedgerow lanes in the Coly Valley, is the sleepy hamlet of Northleigh, 5 to 7 miles from the lovely coastal villages of Beer, Sidmouth and Branscombe. On the edge of Northleigh, three cottages converted from traditional Devon barns on a small mixed farm raising beef, free-range poultry and a few piglets. The Shippen opens from the courtyard into an open plan living space with a seating area with cosy wood-burning stove, dining area, kitchen and glass door to a patio with table and chairs and wonderful views across fields. On the same level are the two comfortable bedrooms sharing a big family bathroom. This is a lovely peaceful base for relaxing and enjoying country freedom.
Colyton is a historic town 3 miles from Seaton and 6 miles from Axminster. The town has a convenience store and 3 pubs, The Gerard Pub dates back to 1506 and was rumoured to have been visited by Laurence of Arabia! The pub has a rear garden is dog friendly and serves traditional home-cooked food. Visit Axe Valley Wildlife Park in Axminister. Visit the Meerkats, Zebras, Chipmunks and much more and then unwind with a coffee while the kids play.
