The town has a mix of convenience stores, pubs, restaurants, 2 small cinemas and a nightclub. It is also a haven for wildlife. Lundy Island is home to Devon's puffin population. It is also visited by seals, dolphins and porpoises. It is also an area that sees a variety of migrating birds returning to the town every year for breeding. With 3 miles of golden sand, Woolacombe beach has won the Blue Flag and Premier Seaside Beach Awards for its cleanliness and water quality. It is very popular with families as there is a lifeguard on patrol over the summer. The beach is also popular with locals for surfing and a range of other water activities. Barricane Bay to the north end of the beach has a cafe offering fantastic views and great food. This is open from early Spring to late Autumn. High tide can reduce beach space here so it is best to check the tide times. A little further up the beach is Combegate beach which is great for exploring the rock pools. For those horse enthusiasts, Woolacombe stables can offer a unique beach ride.
