Superb for long weekend breaks in a beautiful location, the house provides a fantastic base in a superb Devon South Hams location with many places nearby to visit.
The entrance to the cottage is located down six steps, off the property’s hillside setting, and leads into an entrance lobby/utility room, where there is plenty of space to hang up your coats and leave your muddy walking boots after a yomp through the countryside. The snug and sumptuous double bedroom are located on this floor, with the additional benefit of an en-suite bathroom. Upstairs, the first-floor open-plan living space has Velux windows which fill the room with natural light, and a large sofa to relax on or watch the smart TV with a Netflix subscription. The property has a pretty and secluded back garden with two seating areas, and in addition, a large riverside paddock with seating by the riverbank for an aperitif in the evening sun whilst listening to the river running by. There is a lockable shed for bike storage and other outdoor equipment.
The village of Yealmpton is a short walk from the property, where you will find two pubs including the award-winning Rose and Crown, a petrol station with a convenience store, a Post Office, and a village shop for essentials. Bens Farm Shop lies at the other end of the village, well-stocked with delicious local produce including organic meat, fruit, vegetables, a deli, bakery, and café. There are many local walks from the house either along the Yealm Estuary or across the fields and through the woods.
A short drive will take you south to the South West Coast Path, or north onto Dartmoor. The villages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo are four miles away by car, or if you're feeling energetic, you can cycle or walk there following footpaths across fields and back lanes. Here you will find three more pubs and an idyllic estuary to explore. Take the ferry from Newton Ferrers across the harbour to continue the South West Coast Path into Wembury with its sandy beach and onto Plymouth.
A 3-mile cycle or drive away will bring you to the gorgeous, large and unspoilt Mothecombe beach, with the Old Schoolhouse Cafe, whilst Bigbury-on-Sea, Burgh Island, Bantham (for the surfers!) and Salcombe are a little further afield.
Millers Croft is located 7 miles from the centre of the historic city of Plymouth, with its stunning sheltered harbour, Plymouth Sound that can be viewed from the Hoe, and all its shops, a cinema, theatre, and entertainment on the Barbican; the National Fireworks Competition displays occur in August in Plymouth.
