Originally a 200-year-old fisherman's cottage, Hillcroft Cottage holds a lot of character, perfect for a small family looking to explore the beaches of Devon. Start your holiday right as you enter the refined open-plan living room with a kitchen space and dining area, making use of the Nespresso machine at breakfast time. Spend an evening cuddled on the plush sofas as you watch a family film on the Smart TV whilst the woodburning fire warms you up on a frosty winters night. Rustle up a delicious evening meal in the kitchen area before a quiet night in with your loved ones, there's even a dishwasher if you don't fancy cleaning up. The winding narrow stairs, equipped with handrails, guide you up to the first floor where you'll find a generous master bedroom fitted with a king-size bed, choose between a waterfall or hand-held shower to wake you up in the morning in the luxurious bathroom. Up another set of winding narrow stairs is the twin room, which partly overlooks the sea. Grab some local delicacies from the nearby shop or stroll over to the selection of pubs and cafés, all within a short stroll of the property. Shaldon beach is located at the mouth of the River Teign where there's a variety of stunning walks and a number of watersports activities including fishing, swimming, canoeing, sailing, and rowing. Less than a mile from the cottage is the spellbinding Homeyard's Botanical Gardens, a perfect place to experience the breath-taking views of Teignmouth and explore the castle. If you're lucky enough to secure this gem in August, you'll be able to spectate The Annual Shaldon Regatta, a 200-year-old tradition based on the river beach along Marine Parade. Food lovers can fill up their boots at the Taste of the Teign Food and drink trail, a self-guided route journeying Teign's culinary discoveries. Visit the seaside town Torquay, a popular tourist attraction for coastal lovers, and the birthplace of the late novelist, Agatha Christie, you can even walk the Agatha Christie Mile, a walking tour of murder scenes from her novels. Shaldon

Shaldon is 5 minutes ferry ride from Teignmouth and 19 minutes to Newton Abbott by car. Shaldon is a traditional, very pretty village with a shop, grocery store and a pub. For more variety of shops, cafes and restaurants take the passenger ferry to Teignmouth, which takes dogs too. Shaldon beach is great for families and rock pooling, as are the nearby beaches of Teignmouth or Ness Cove which is accessed by an original smugglers tunnel and is a dog-friendly beach all year round. Explore the South West Coast Path from Shaldon to Labrador Bay and enjoy the views along the way or visit the Shaldon Wildlife Trust zoo. Each year Shaldon host probably the oldest running regatta on the 1st Saturday in August and is great fun for all the family.
