From here you can find the ground-floor bathroom, home to a corner bath and shower attachment for a calming soak after a day of walking. Head upstairs to the heart of the home on the first floor, gather in the evening to watch a DVD in the sitting area after a sit-down meal at the dining table, amidst the many period features retained. An ample-sized kitchen hosting all you need for a self-catered stay, including a gas hob and electric oven and even a handy dishwasher, leads to the outdoor patio area, with further steps leading to a larger decking, an ideal spot to enjoy the afternoon sun and take in the views of Hillsborough. Sink your toes in the sand on Cheyne Beach, a small stretch of sands between the headlands, before heading to Capstone Hill where beautiful views of the surrounding coastline can be enjoyed as well as panoramic views of the town. A must-visit is the famous Tunnels Beaches; four tunnels hand-carved in the 1820s leading to a beach and Victorian tidal bathing pool. Ilfracombe is a picturesque harbour town on the North Devon coast with a reputation as being the culinary and cultural hub of the area. With the 20m high Damien Hirst sculpture Verity overlooking the water (Ilfracombe is Hirst's home town) and a collection of local galleries featuring both local and international artists. There are plenty of great restaurants to try in Fore Street and around the Harbour serving locally sourced food and catering for all tastes and budgets. Lots to do and see in the area including the Tunnels Beaches, Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle with a great mix of children's activities that appeal to all ages or take a tour of haunted Chambercombe Manor.
