Description

Gatsby Getaway offers offers guests something a little different, from its striking Art Deco style exterior, spacious interior and two comfortable bedrooms, to its decked sitting-out area in the shape of a ship’s bow. These along with some really well thought out finishing touches create a great place to spend the week touring this unrivalled part of North Devon. Even if its a quite weekend away, Gatsby Getaway is sure to provide some great memories.

The property is located just outside Kentisbury, close to the dramatic coastline and Exmoor National Park. The seaside village of Combe Martin is a short drive away and here there is a beach, excellent for rock pooling or hiring a kayak. There is also a good range of local shops and eateries. The larger coastal town of Ilfracombe has a bustling harbour area where you can book coastline safaris, sea fishing and high speed boat rides, as well as a wide range of shops and amenities. There is also the Victorian Tunnel Beaches, Landmark Theatre and some very good local restaurants.

During your stay, there is plenty to see and do. There is walking up on Exmoor and the South West Coast Path, where you will be treated to some stunning scenery. The towns of Lynton and Lynmouth, linked by the famous cliff railway, are a great day out. Here there is the access to the Valley of the Rocks, with their wild goat herds, and the very pretty Watersmeet with its National Trust tearooms. Towards the coast at Woolacombe, Staunton and Croyde, you will find some of the best beaches in the country, ideal for surfing or a long walk to blow away the cobwebs. There are National Trust properties at Arlington, Knightshayes and Castle Drogo. The RHS gardens at Rosemoor are also a delight. There is cycling on the Tarka Trail, and golf, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting are all available locally. Beach 3¼ miles. Pub 3¼ miles and restaurant 2½ miles.

Area Details

Combe Martin

Combe Martin exemplifies the best of both worlds lying on the edge of Exmoor National Park and the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty while being on the popular North Devon coast. It is home to Combe Martin Beach, a sandy sheltered beach with some rocks to one side that is perfect for rockpooling that accepts pets between October and April. For a bit more seclusion take a 2km walk (steep in places) to Wild Pear Beach a very pretty cove protected by cliffs with more golden sands to enjoy. A visit to Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur is a must, set in beautiful surroundings with streams and waterfalls with a diverse collection of animals including meerkats, wolves, triceratops and brachiosaurus! No fewer than 10 gardens are within travelling distance as well as a host of National Trust properties you may need to stay an extra week to take everything in.
