There are great cycle routes and walking trails, The Great Templar Way runs for 18 miles from Dartmoor National Park through the town finishing at the coastal town of Teignmouth. The Virtual Jet Centre with its simulator is a must for any adventurous kids and adults alike. For those who love horticulture, there are the Orchid Farm to explore or the Local Nature Reserve within Newton Abbot itself. Decoy Park is a big country park with a playground and is dog-friendly, some beaches do allow dogs but please research this first as some are seasonal. If you do want a car-free day at the beach, then Teignmouth, Dewlish and Torquay are accessible by train from Newton Abbott and takes 11 minutes.
