Description

This semi-detached 400-year-old thatched cottage is arranged over three floors and retains many original features, and is perfect for family and friends wanting a village escape. The living room has a cosy wood burner to curl up beside on a chilly evening and the sunny garden is ideal for a morning coffee whilst you plan your day. The external utility room has an Orvis dog bed for guests to use if they wish. The village shop/post office is a short stroll and has a superb range of goods. There are plenty of fishing lakes nearby and fly fishing on the River Torridge, walking distance, can be arranged with the owner (subject to availability).
The locally renowned inn, which welcomes well behaved dogs are just across the village square, and the cottage is located near to the Tarka Trail and directly on the Devon Coast-to-Coast cycle route. Within half an hour’s drive is Dartmoor in one direction, and Bude’s glorious sandy beaches the other.
The pretty market towns of Hatherleigh and Holsworthy are under 15 minutes’ drive away. Dartmoor National Park is a must for nature lovers and other nearby attractions include the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, many National Trust properties including Castle Drogo, Buckland Abbey, Cotehele, The Finch Foundry and Lydford Gorge. Cross House is superb holiday choice whatever the time of year, with coastal and country walking, golf, surfing, fishing, horse riding, cycling all on offer close by, and for family fun The Big Sheep and The Milky Way adventure parks are not to be missed. Beach 19 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 150 yards.

Sheepwash

Sheepwash is a small but pretty village with some thatched cottages near the River Torridge. It has a community shop and post office with the attraction of the Half Moon Inn which offers traditional home-cooked food, plus for those who like fishing, 7 miles of private fishing for Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout, or field sports for those who enjoy shooting. The famous Tarka Trail is picked up here for the walking enthusiasts and just 15 minutes drive is Holworthy Golf Club. Torview Vineyard in the village itself offers a local tour of their family-run Winery. Visit the castle dating back to the 14th century, and Atlantis shopping Village in Okehampton. RHS Rosemore and Dartington Crystal Visitors Centre is at Great Torrington which is 8 miles away.
