Situated 10 miles from the Exmoor National Park, there is an array of walks to enjoy, wildlife to look out for including owls, hedgehogs, wild deer, and kingfishers, and the chance for stargazing with minimal light pollution. Just 1 mile away is the village of Umberleigh where there’s a lovely pub and a community shop which sells a range of produce. The regional towns of Barnstaple and South Molton are within 10 miles and have popular pannier markets. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy the traffic-free Tarka Trail (10 miles), while other local attractions include RHS Rosemoor Gardens and Dartington Crystal, both 16 miles from the property.
When you arrive, you can walk straight into the ground-floor sleeping quarters or head up an external flight of steps to the first-floor living space. The ground-floor entrance hall is the perfect place to hang your coats and kick off your shoes, there is a utility cupboard with a built-in washing machine in this area. This floor also boasts two spacious bedrooms – one with a super-king zip-and-link bed (which can be made into twin beds on request) and a king-size bed in the other. Both bedrooms have Smart TVs and each has its own en-suite shower room with WC. As you head upstairs to the first floor, take a moment to appreciate the impressive open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner which is well-furnished and equipped. The perfect backdrop for chatting whilst cooking in the kitchen area. The kitchen offers an electric oven and hob, fridge with freezer section, dishwasher, wine cooler and microwave. Take a seat at the dining table to enjoy the tasty meal or perhaps enjoy a game of cards whilst planning the next day’s activities. The fabulous lounge area is light and airy with a galleried area overlooking the entrance hall; sit back and relax amongst the rich, leather sofas and soft furnishings and watch your favourite programme on the Smart TV whilst warming your toes in front of the roaring wood burner.
Outside the enclosed garden wraps around the property and has a patio area accessed via stone steps with garden furniture. Enjoy the views over the rolling countryside where stags and deer can sometimes be spotted whilst an adjacent orchard offers space for your four-legged friend to be exercised. Umberleigh is a small village by the River Taw. The villages of Warkleigh, Chittlehampton, High Bickington and Atherington are all within 10 minutes drive and the town of Barnstaple is 6 miles away. There are plenty of riverside walks to explore and the Tarkka train line runs through here on the way to Barnstaple and Exeter which offers fantastic views along the way. Visit the Cobbaton Combat Collection, a military museum that has 50 vehicles and exhibits from the Boer War to the Gulf War. Umberleigh has access to a lot of great fishing, being so close to the River Taw. The village has a convenience store and a pub. For those involved with the National Trust, Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum, 10 miles away, is one to visit with 20 miles of footpaths to discover. Marwood Hill Gardens, RHS Garden Rosemoor and Castle Hill Gardens are within 10 miles of Umberleigh.
